on the controversial issues of the day

maybe it's the pending presidential elections or the bombardment of talking heads (and more likely how I felt personally moved by the last couple of entries), but I decided it was time to share my views on issues that usually divide people and have the potential to dramatically alter how people feel about a person... I look at ideas separately from the actions one chooses and most important to me is the intentions of the heart... and you decide how you judge... hopefully I won't lose too many of you with this entry, but like it or not, these are my views on the more controversial issues of the day...

I believe in freedom, including freedom of choice for an individual...

I believe enough people have died for the ideal of freedom already through many means in human history (bullets, bombs, poisons, beheadings, and even nailed to crosses) and more will probably die for it after I write these words...

I do not want to be one who would call upon anyone to make decisions that suggest that sacrifice was in vain...

so I considered this as I pondered the following controversial issues and concepts that have torn the human race apart in recent years and in years past...

I ask you to consider opening your mind and freeing it of your personal views before reading this because I do not wish to influence you at all and I seek no argument or debate...

I provide this as information about me for anyone who wants to know me and nothing more (but if more happens, well, that's life)...

on euthenasia...

I believe euthanasia should be legal for those who choose it...

and personally, I would want to be kept alive by any means necessary if there was any shread of hope that extraordinary circumstances might either improve my life or someday, through further research, improve others lives... I would rather not be exploited, but I would offer myself up to serious scientists for medical study if a group of them from different backgrounds and different organizations and different countries agreed that experimenting on this body might help me or someone else in the near or far future...

on abortion...

I have the similar view on abortion, suicide, and drugs...

I believe abortion should be legal for those who choose it...

personally, doubt very much I would have an abortion if the situation presented itself in my life... I was adopted, carried to term and given away at birth by my birth mother... if abortion was a more widely accepted option when I was born in my mother's culture, I might not be here...

but my right to choose what is right for me does not mean I have the right to choose what is right for you...

my right to choose ends where your right to choose begins...

on suicide...

I believe suicide should be legal for those who choose it...

personally, I choose to live and let death come when it will... and you are free to choose what is right for your life...

on drugs...

I believe drugs should be legal for those who choose them...

it follows the previous thoughts that anyone who wishes to explore their minds (or escape or eventually destroy their bodies) with drugs (or any means) has that right...

personally, I doubt I'll use drugs again in this life unless a doctor (or very good friend) convinces me it is in my best interest... I've tried most every drug the average person can name and many others only scientists and serious drug users would know about (that explains a lot to some who don't know better, huh?... what, you expected an entire entry of seriousness?.. hey, wait a minute, who said I wasn't serious?... note the protruding tongue)...

and that's where I give myself a rest... if you want to know my opinion (or how I feel in my heart, or what I do) about another controversion subject, just ask... I mean, feel free to ask... don't hold back on my account...

ultimately, it's about freedom for me... anyone has the right to choose to do anything that does not diminish or prevent others from choosing to do what they wish to do... that is freedom, pure and simple... and I believe I do not have the right (or moral obligation) to overpower anyone with my choice, so if you choose not to be free in any way, I hope you enjoy your choice...
