up all night

it's morning and we've been up all night listening to music (hoping we're not powerless for too long this time)... did I mention that last week I spent six hours at a computer copying 15 gigabytes of mp3 files?... and gradually I shall be sorting through the 25 CDs and converting songs into music and start my musical life all over again, again, again (for the umpteenth time... now I want a zillion GB hard drive so I can get all the music there is in the world... again... someday, I hope to have time to sort through it and find favorites, until then, I just keep listening... we started with CD #9 (Precious chose because Josh Groban was on it, among a dozen other artists including Elton John, Moby, Jimmy Buffet, James Taylor, BMG, Roy Orbison, a collection of songs related to islands and oceans and beaches, a collection of songs from Ally McBeal, and a collection of songs someone put together for themselves... all in all, there's at least 10 CDs of music packed into this mp3 CD)... it's been on for many hours and we've skipped only a handful of songs...

I was contemplating the difference, for what differences are worth, between geeks and nerds and whether I fit closer to one or the other category... I mean, I do spend an hour or two on the computer three or four days a week (and through different phases of this life, I've averaged more and less hours per week at the computer... there was a time, for instance, when I'd be at the computer writing for six to eight hours a day four or five times a week (that was before the internet and mostly for the love of writing, though snail mail pen pal correspondences were a much beloved part of that time)... I am not meticulous about code or design or even fixing typos (as you can plainly see) and I know a lot less about this technology wonderland that I may appear to (cuz I can sound like an expert in anything when asked a question, but that's just cuz I'm confident about what I do know and not afraid to admit I don't know something and can do research quickly... I still don't know if I'm full fledged in either group...

I know I am easily amused though, to let another thought fall out of my head, segue or no segue, and I was amused by this ink today... I think you might be too... it's ok, you can get some on ya... and I am so happy I found her (thank you)...

meanwhile, we left off last night with the StarGate series just starting and with Precious bored and seeking conversation (and wants to get online, but I was copying CDs and my desktop computer doesn't have the memory for multi-tasking, so I'll have to shut down the copying programs to let her use it cuz Rasputin has his computer in his bedroom and he's asleep and Precious really needs her own computer but it seems to be waiting for me to buy it, like everything else around here... alas) to add to the multi-tracking my mind is being asked to do while composing this entry (which was actually a continuation of the previous entry but I realized I was wandering too far along and decided to upload the previous entry and continue this one as a separate entry, for whatever that means or is worth as information to you), but that gives you the hopefully sense of being here as it is being written which is what we want, right?... well, I can hope it's what you want cuz it's what I want (though not enough to get back into more working for money to buy more powerful computers to have instant messaging, huh?... well, poverty has it's own rewards)...

I seem to be sorta mishmashing old cliches lately, kinda like I slip musical references in to entries without thinking much about it just cuz my mind things in lyrical references a lot... and I got hungry about here, which is actually why the previous entry was uploaded cuz I got up to order some food (cuz I don't feel like cooking and there's nothing really to cook in the house cuz I emptied the freezer and fridge (except for the things Precious bought the last time we went shopping {like ten days ago} that she's barely touched and will most likely be thrown out if power goes out cuz my roommies just don't have the same cringe about wasting food that I do as they do it all the time) cuz of the Hurricane and while I'm up I'll shut down my programs so she can use the desktop...

and that's about how the evening slurped into the night and I was alternately recording CDs once Rasputin left for work and Precious could then use his computer, and listening to the endless CD with Precious, and munching on the food I ordered last night, and browsing the web, and glancing out the window to see if Frances was coming early, and watching my computer automatically check my gmail every few minutes... and being that it is a Hurricane weekend (which is as close to the end of the world as we want to come), we are having a chocolate and Code Red party ...

you are, of course, invited... but bring a raincoat and rubbers, ok?

you know that box to the right on the dland entry page called recent public entries?... what do the asterisks mean?... and the bold?...
