2004-02-03 - 7:57 p.m. is today really Tuesday? earlier, while The Fugitive played on the TV and Rasputin sleeps on the living room floor with an ice pack on his back (he's got chronic major pains and is finally getting tests this week for that... hopefully his Docs will get to the bottom of it and help him) and I think his clothes are still in the dryer, so with his help (such a good friend) my laundry gets put off again and I looked for motivation to get to the gym again (what?... how does that fit in with a lazy day off?)... I don't know that I found it (motivation, that is), but I did get down to the gym and spent forty minutes on the LifeCycle 9100 (details)... and I didn't die... this is a good thing... I think... but still most of the rest of today was vegetation... and having a few days off work, I lost track of time again... it probably is Tuesday, but I really was not certain when I sat down here... does it matter?... our little fantasy basketball league (we interrupt this entry for sports talk for three paragraphs... the regularly unscheduled babble will continue afterward) continues to present challenges and something to talk about... I dropped a player who will probably be out for six weeks (if reports can be believed) because I waited more than a week for him to be placed on the injured list and could wait no more for another player who was on the injured list returned to play and I wanted to be able to use him and that meant making room on the team... so I dropped two players because to pick up another injured player I needed to drop two then and picked up another injured player hoping he'll help the team down the road and brought the no-longer-injured player back into my daily lineup and picked up another player to replace the second one I dropped... that's Barry Brent (dropped), Antonio Davis (dropped) Karl Malone (picked up for IL, injured list), and Jamal Mashburn (moved off IL), and Vlade Divac, in case you are wondering... the rest of my team is Forward-heavy since losing Brent Barry (and having Alan Houston not playing for the moment), so I'm considering trying to make a trade for a guard, but for now I like the players I have... each team can start three centers, four forwards, four guards, and four utility players (any position)... I chose so many starting players for us to test our knowledge of the depth of teams and not just superstars... so Dirk Nowinski, Tim Duncan, Ben Wallace (only the three top ranked fantasy centers) start at center with Vlade Divac as a backup, Forwards Andrei Kirilenko, Elton Brand, Jamal Mashburn, and Shareef Abdur-Rahim usually start at the four forward slots and Jason Kidd, Ray Allen, Michael Finley, and either Mike Bibby or Steve Francis start at the four guard slots... the utility slots are usually Rashard Lewis, Rasheed Wallace, and rotating in and out with Pau Gasol, Anthony Carmelo, Ricky Davis, Allan Houston (if he's playing), and Richard Jefferson... Karl Malone and Gilbert Arenas fill my two injured list slots for now, but I'll probably make a few more changes if Brent Barry and/or Allan Houston get put on the IL... and that's my team... hey, it's something to do to pass the time and keeps me in touch with the game... that's why I set up and play fantasy sports, to keep in touch with the sports... and I love numbers and stats... it just takes a few hours a week, if that much, and there's amusement and something to talk about... soon it'll be baseball again... I can talk music and movies too (and enjoy it more)... meanwhile, back in the real world, the court papers giving Rasputin full custody of Precious, his fifteen year old daughter, were finally signed by the judge in Ohio and faxed down here today... she'll be moving in here on Thursday... we'll be moving to a bigger apartment in three weeks... just when you thought life couldn't get any more exciting around here, huh?... well, it's a far cry from the excitement of Gump's place, but it oughta be more interesting than it has been, which has been just slightly more exciting than watching paint dry... Rasputin and I are hoping that Precious might help out our social life... we told her she can only move down here if she makes friends who have gorgeous single moms... ah, but she is a great kid and I may finally have a gym partner if we can get our schedules together some days... motivation, yeah... so we went out to celebrate (early... we'll have to go again when she gets here) at her favorite restaurant (which also happens to be my favorite), Michaels... the delicious onion soup... and they had my favorite stuffed clams this time (they didn't last time)... better than ever... and then I put my ethics and other knowledge aside and ordered veal parm for the first time in a lot of years... and I remembered the restaurants in NY I used to frequent when I pressed down with a fork and did not have to apply much pressure... it is way over on the East side, outside of Orlando itself, but if you are ever in the area you must try this place... you don't even have to be a gorgeous mom, or have one... we stopped at the local supermarket on the way home and I finally used my last two Christmas bonuses ($15 gift certificates to the local supermarket... generous place I work for, huh?) and there's chocolate sitting next to me now... Brach's Stars, Malted Milk balls, and Non-Pareils... yum... yes, gym again tomorrow... how about you?... now I'm sitting back watching the Science channel... shows about the universe... the big bang is still happening and picking up speed?... the universe is younger than we thought?... some stars are older than the universe?... most of space is not visible, dark matter?... black holes are?... alternate universes?... worm holes?... recycle bins?... I love the unknowns... and I'd love to know too... so what did you do today?
