next week, same batty time...

I could have sworn I wrote this entry already, but apparently my mind is playing tricks on me again... I did sit down here to write this entry several times in the past twelve hours... here's what I did last night:

I. Rodrguez (Det - C)
C. Delgado (Tor - 1B)
J. Thome (Phi - 1B)
R. Sexson (Ari - 1B)
J. Kent (Hou - 2B)
M. Giles (Atl - 2B)
E. Chvez (Oak - 3B)
M. Ensberg (Hou - 3B)
. Rodrguez (NYY - SS)
R. Furcal (Atl - SS)
G. Anderson (Ana - LF,DH)
B. Giles (SD - LF,CF)
R. Sanders (StL - LF,RF)
J. Pierre (Fla - CF)
T. Hunter (Min - CF)
G. Sheffield (NYY - RF)
M. Ordez (CWS - RF)
A. Huff (TB - 1B,RF,DH)

R. Halladay (Tor - SP)
M. Prior (ChC - SP)
E. Loaiza (CWS - SP)
J. Moyer (Sea - SP)
M. Morris (StL - SP)
M. Mulder (Oak - SP)
J. Pieiro (Sea - SP)
K. Foulke (Bos - RP)
M. Rivera (NYY - RP)
U. Urbina (Det - RP)
J. Julio (Bal - RP)
R. Nen (SF - RP)

that was the results of the draft in the first fantasy baseball league of the season (I know, you're all just too excited for words... it's ok, you'll calm down enough to leave a note or few eventually)... obviously, with only four teams in a league, virtually every team is an All-Star team... I had to overcome the horrible luck of having the first pick in the draft (which then meant not having another pick until the eighth pick, so the top cream of the crop slipped by me), but I think I did pretty well in six or seven of the ten statistical categories... sportscasters all over the globe are making early predictions that my team should lead in Home Runs and RBIs, with a competitive edge in Runs, Ks, ERA, WHIP, and Saves with an even chance in Wins and while SBs and BA are the two stat categories in which my team will most likely have to settle for competing for second or third position, all in all it gives us a good chance to be league champion... yay and all that jazz... love those imaginary sportscasters...

through some last minute coaxing, I convinced Rasputin and his brother to join the league so we had the necessary four teams... unfortunately I was a bit late in taking the coaxing seriously so two dear peoples (and you know who you are) were a little late for the dance (funny thing those time zones, huh?... especially when I forget about them)... so next week, we shall do it all again (in a league of challenge and mystery where the knowledge of statistical details and that sweet breath of athletic intuition make all the the difference)... oh how grandious the delusions, aye?...

but I wasn't done there... onward the grand band of geniuses travel through my mind to the next league, the Winner's League (a league so dubbed because entry is only granted to those who were champions in previous years... can you hear the cheering throngs?)... actually I don't have the time for daily studies that it takes to win a Winner's League, but I do well to get into them each year and enjoy the competition... add to the fact that there are twelve teams and in truth, there is so much cheating in the private leagues and many create leagues and fill them with teams just to be able to be champion and gain elegibility to a Winner's League... even in last years winner's league there was collusion between several teams (when one or two give up and trade their best players to another team to make them easy winners)... but I enjoy the challenge all the more for it is an even steeper climb... so with that I dove into the second live draft of the season and came up with this:

J. Lpez (Bal - C)
T. Helton (Col - 1B)
M. Giles (Atl - 2B)
H. Blalock (Tex - 3B)
O. Cabrera (Mon - SS)
T. Hunter (Min - CF)
R. Sanders (StL - LF,RF)
J. Guilln (Ana - LF,RF)
K. Lofton (NYY - CF)
L. Walker (Col - RF)
J. Lugo (TB - SS)
S. Finley (Ari - CF)
E. Alfonzo (SF - 3B)

M. Mussina (NYY - SP)
J. Pieiro (Sea - SP)
J. Contreras (NYY - SP,RP)
K. Escobar (Ana - SP,RP)
J. Garland (CWS - SP)
J. Smoltz (Atl - RP)
T. Hoffman (SD - RP)
J. Valverde (Ari - RP)

definitely had to take some long shots and gambles (intuitive guesses) in my picks, but that is what makes the race fun... and so I came here to tell you of this and to invite you to joine the next draft for the next league which will be next Saturday at 5PM Eastern time... and I fell asleep... ah, the comfort of the big green chair... I woke again at the time of this entry and started again, only to fall asleep again... and then I woke again... and then there was laundry...

sometime before starting the drafts last night I started laundry... and all through the night between naps I have been doing laundry and unpacking boxes and cleaning my room... finally starting to move in... reluctantly, it appears, for while it is in a space shared with good people, it is still not with the one... and until the one arrives to share in physical space, I am not home outside of myself... so I unpack my heart and soul and all I am in words wherever I am and the rest, the clothes and few possessions are rather casually left here and there, waiting for the one to unpack them with me...

ah, the baseball poet, ever the romantic... batty, no doubt...

and what of the rest, for yes there is more to be told... in time, in other entries in other places, perhaps... for now I invite you to join me and a few other good folk into the world of baseball statistics to pass the time... it's all in good fun (all the verbal jousting and fanfare is just jostling with silliness and teasing)... the leagues is more fun with more people so if you enjoy following baseball and statistics you are more than welcome... it is a great way to get to know each other a bit better, to share some fun...

come and join us (let me know you want to, write or call) and I'll send you an invitation from the site)... the draft is live and next week, same batty time, even more fun...
