hope can be dangerous

I have a hope for the next few years... my hope is that one of the most frequently asked questions from kids studying World War II, how did German people let it happen? does not need to be asked again...

I like this idea... I might even try it one of these days, so I am writing this note to myself to remind me to... I usually leave a note at the site itself to remind me, but that doesn't always work because I have to remember to visit the site and read my note and it might be way down the page of notes or even deleted and that's providing I am inspired again to go to the notes page and remember I left a note to remind me of whatever it was I wanted to remember... if you follow this, you're probably as confused or amused as I am (depending on perspective) and may even enjoy it (I usually do)...

this entry started yesterday (which is why it's dated the day before it's uploaded, for the official record of time travelers and allI've forgotten what the idea was already...

but I liked, it, really, and hopefully I'll figure out how to do it one of these days... when I remember what it is...

ok, I went back there and now I like the idea even more... unfortunately I do not have the means to do it... I am far less musicless that I was last year at this time (thanks to the public library, a wonderful invention), but I do not have the computer or hard drive space to load a lot of songs... heck, I don't even have decent software to play music on the computer (with 64MB RAM, what can be expected, aye?) and the juke-box CD player is in storage up north (and has been for years), so the idea will have to wait...

but I still think it's a great idea (I think she would, if she catches this entry... even though she fooled me into thinking she was leaving and I mourned and even pleaded with her to stay and continue enlightening and amusing and touching us with her words in an entry here some time back when she first fooled me into thinking she was leaving and out of the blue or for some good reason that I don't recollect at the moment even though it only happened a little while ago I discovered that she never really left and all but she obviously was just teaching me a lesson or few (1. keep checking in on favorites... 2. don't believe everything you read... 3. overreacting to bad news may be a waste of time... she teaches me a lot, but we'll stop this list at three before it becomes another list-type entry and actually relates to the previous thought) and now I sheepishly humble over to her older pages to see how long my attention span can focus on one train of thought today cuz I have some catching up to do and {this and goes back to the even though at the start of this sentence... yeah, I know, sentence, huh?} she can be dangerous to book addicts like me, I still love to read her)...

actually, I just left three notes there promising to immortalize her here in my next entry (so I guess this is it), but however does one immortalize someone?... I looked it up on the internet (cuz the internet knows everything) and I found a whole lot of fan fiction and the lyrics to a few songs, but no actual information about how to do it... the questions seemed to go up in smoke, evanescently, even... anyway, the best I could do was stalk her (after starting to catch-up on her recent writings it was easy... I explored some of the rings she belongs to and joined willy-nilly... ok, not so willy-nilly, actually... I joined some of the ones that I should have joined a long time ago but never knew they existed)...

but the point is I stalked her good...

so hopefully she is immortalized or at least noticed more... cuz she deserves it... even if I am never on her favorites list cuz she doesn't like Stephen King... and speaking of ideas, this is a great idea too... I think every community or clique or small group of friends should have one... I'd certainly have one if I were a community or clique or small group of friends, in fact, my readers could probably use one just to understand me, but then, mine would have to include a whole hypertexted section covering typos...

meanwhile, in other news... well I see Andrew finally went and did it... now I have the choice of moving all my diaryland stuff over to my own domain or moving my domain name over to the Dland servers... or maybe get a second domain (like I need one?... I haven't even moved all of my stuff to my first domain)... anyway, good luck to DLand and to you, whichever way you go...

funny I should have noticed that and mentioned Andrew in this entry, since those notes I left (and mentioned above) still haven't showed up and the hours of work I did updating my rings page still has not showed up so what about that, Andrew?...

hey, wait a minute... I just noticed that another update to my template has not shown up either... when I check the editing pages, the changes are in there, but the pages are not coming through... my browswer caching issues or DLand server issue?...

so does that mean this entry won't show up if I upload it?...

to change the subject (and try to distract myself from yet another fart from my dear roommate), something that always baffles me is why a person would spend the time and effort to write diary entries for years, create an archive of their life (or creative stuff), attract a following of people who read and care or at least enjoy the diary, and then just one day delete it all and leave readers hanging and leave new visitors wondering whatever happened and why the diary page is still up on the web, ya know?...

I mean, I can understand why someone would put up banner ads to get people to come to their diary even when their diary is just a pointer to another journal or site, cuz I understand the attention-whore mindset (and I'm not the only one, right?)... but to just delete everything and say goodbye?... well, to each his or her or it own...

DISCLAIMER: the diaries linked in the previous paragraphs were not singled out for any reason in particular other than to demonstrate the points of the wondering that the paragraphs are about and they were chosen randomly simply because I happened to find them in two of the open windows on my computer (and how exactly I got to them I do not know, then again, the second one I got to via a banner ad) and that got me to thinking about what happened and where the diarists went and above all else (here comes the real discloaimer part of this disclaimer), no harm was intended in citing either of them (or anyone anywhere at any time... I figure I might as well disclaim everything since I'm disclaiming already) as the example for the the things that baffled me...

the updates, meanwhile, are still not showing up...

I tried refreshing...

on an even more serious note, I am obviously out of touch with Canadian teenagers (sad, true, and not their fault)... it was made abundantly clear to me after I took the quiz at Smart Ask (which is a CBC TV show)... once, I knew as much as any Canadian teenager, but my mediocre score of 40 on the "The and Now" category tells me I've forgotten much more than I'll ever know... probably a survival instinct, no doubt...

I did score 49 in the TV, Movies, and Curling category, probably because none of the questions were about curling... finally I went for the gusto, the "Oh, Canada" category... I mean, who know the Albatross was on the Canadian Armed Forces patch, anyway?... 24...

some of you will get the references, some of you won't...

deal with it...

anyway, now the site (Dland) won't show up at all... so I only got a week or so back on that site I was backtracking earlier... luckily, I also had the Tomato Nation home page open (via earlygirl), so I had something to distract me... after all, I love ketchup...

the bad news for you (or good news if you're as bored or lonely or crazy as I am about reading rambling words) is that this entry will continue a bit longer and not be uploaded just yet because I took the night off to pack and instead of packing I sat here browsing the web and rambling on and taking quizzes and watching TV and a few other things (like spend a couple of hours at the library earlier taking out another hundred or so CDs)... yeah, I'll list them all one of these days (like I once did way back when I had a life I thought I was enjoying and giving my all to and guiding with hope and faith and confidence and all sorts of wonderful stuff), but until then I'll just keep recording and building a music collection again...

the bad news for Andrew and Company is the timing... to offer more hosting services, domain hosting services no less, and within a few days have the site go down... not good business...

of course it could be that good ol' Andrew (who really does have a diary worth visiting, when he deems to update that is) has my little laptop bugged and saw that I was teasing him and not blindly supporting Dland 1000% and decided to cast a spell on me so I could not access the site... they are his servers, after all...

or maybe the master has given Dobby a sock...

and then we get the bright idea to check the main Dland page and we find faithful Andrew giving us the news at 9:29pm EST, with apologies... some server glitch that he hopes will fix itself as it checks itself and since it's taking longer than usual, they're moving over to a new server... I thought they had lots of servers already, but this somehow must be the main one since all the site is down... as I recall that different diaries on on different servers with different cartoon character names... this entry wasn't meant to get at all technical, so apologies for those of you (like me) who prefer to focus on the nonsense and leave the business and technical stuff to the people we're paying to do that stuff... well, some of us are paying, anyway (I've got a gold and a supergold at the moment, which is supportive enough for my pocketbook these days, especially since that costs about the same as my primary domain server and I can do more over there... if I ever get around to doing anything, that is)...

so it may be another few hours, he says...

apologetic too...

and being serious, that's one of the reasons I have not moved my diaries off the DLand server... I feel for the guy... call me fool or whatever, but if even Bill Gates (to use the most extreme example I can think of) personally wrote sincere apology notes for his crappy software that crashes much more than it should and then personally kept in touch in real time on some webpage, he'd probably make even more money even after years of flawed products...

I'm not sure it would work for a President who keeps lying and screwing up, but I suppose some genius will realize it's worth a shot someday... after all, few are old enough to remember Roosevelt's Fireside Chats, but history seems to give them a lot of power and influence... do you think recent Presidents have not followed suit because none could keep it real and sounding true?...

sure is frustrating though...

I could be packing... or doing something else... but instead I think i'll watch Harry Potter for the zillionth and third time and sip on my Mountain Dew... not just cuz I'm in a lazy mood, but cuz I'm lonely... in fact, if we get real about it, my laziness, apathy, procrastination, and other less than heathy habits are almost completely borne out of loneliness... the social creature in me thrives on intimate sharing, trust, caring, and ultimately, on being in love... and the last few years have left me starving qite nearly to death for all practical purposes... of course it's time for me to point out that I am not dead yet and slip in the link for the mostly dead diary and journal (and do it casually and cleverly so as to lighten the mood, right?), just to remind us, after all...

but I don't feel like distracting myself from feeling the loneliness right now... I just realized that I started this entry with hope... apparently, hope can be dangerous... and I just realized just how much I use the browsing of DLand to fend off the loneliness monster... time to wander over to LJ, to be sure...
