2005-04-07 - 8:32 p.m.

and then another day happened...

yup, it did... just happened and then it was history... amazing, huh?... this week is almost over according to the work calendar and I am burning out once again... too much to do in too little time (there's that time thing again)...

Rasputin has been leading me further and further into the land of fantasy sports drafting (and since I am following, I am drafting, but we're not racing cars)... ok, so I admit that I actually started the whole fantasy sports playing some years ago, but now he's hooked on the drafting part (that's when you pick your best guesses at who's going to have a great year while everyone else playing is also picking in order from the same player pool (just like on TV)... it's an organized madness as each person takes a turn and then frantically tries to find information about some player because the player they really wanted was taken while they were taking another player they really wanted... yeah, you do have to be there)...

every day after work this week (instead of sleeping... except today... not that we slept today, but we'll get to that) we sat at our respective computers (actually I sat at my desktop and he sat at Precious's computer cuz we still have not fixed his... this weekend... I know I've said that the last few weeks, but we've been doing so many other things there's just not been time to sit on the phone with tech support and convince them that they need to send a service person out because their software does not work on the old Windows 98 machines)...

yes, we need newer computers, but that doesn't mean we should pay for a service that does not work on the computers we've got... it worked for more than a year until Raspy's computer got a bug and had to be reformmated and now I suppose the upgraded software is no longer compatible with Windows 98 and the tech people are hot and cold about helping... some are courteous and doing their best and others are flippant and basically laughing at us for our old equipment while they tell us there's nothing they can do to help us... that's when I tell them they can inform their supervisor that the $80 a month I pay for internet and the $80 a month I pay for two cell phone and the $50 a month I pay for house phones and answering services can be charged to their paychecks since we will cancel all acounts and cite them as the reason...

what was your name again?...

remember the store manager in Pretty Woman?... it is truly amazing how quickly people can change their attitudes from arrogant to suck-up...

so anyway, that was every other day this week... each morning we sat at two different computers and explored the fantasy baseball drafting possibilities and drafted a few more teams... in the madness, I suggested we create yet another Yahoo ID (they allow only four teams per ID) to draft four more teams, but sensibly I suggested we make sure they have no bench (that would be where the extra players sit) so we would not have to check in every day and rearrange players which is time consuming to do and if you don't do it you're about guaranteed to lose...

over the years I've lost interest in the daily monitoring of teams and basically set my team up for a week (or few) and hope for the best... winning the first few years was enough ego gratification for me I suppose... and besides, I'd rather be babbling here with you...

but we like the drafting part most...

there's always the weekend...

speaking of not going online and arranging your team daily (were we?), I neglected my basketball leagues all season and finished in last place in two of them... the irony is in one of those two there's a four team playoff and since there are just four teams in that league, I'm in the playoffs... Raspy says I'm doing well... I haven't checked... and I did not set my team for this playoff week, so I probably don't have much chance, especially since I am playing the first place team (which would be Raspy), but it would be another sweet irony if I won like I did in the football playoffs last year...

life is strangely sweet sometimes...

further irony is that I am actually in first place in a third league (we only created/joined three basketball leagues... I have no idea why we were so sensible at that time) where there are at least eight teams and Raspy and his brother and another guy have been actively playing, that is, going online and rearranging players to maximize stats several times a week... I might actually check that league out this weekend since there's a challenge coming directly at me and that's usually fun...

anyway, that is not what happened today...

besides, I've got to get in the habit of checking the many baseball leagues at least twice a week or there'll be pitchers pitching while they sit on my bench and I won't get the points for and you're fascinated by all this, aren't you?...

this morning we drove out to the airport to take Heidi to the plane that will take her home... dozens of teenagers sharing hugs and tears and promises to keep in touch that may or might not be kept... ah, to be young and living in the moment (shhhh, I still do... I just don't always let them know)... so bye bye German exchange student, hello less activity around the casa de candoor... I did appreciate her healthy influences what with her being a vegetarian and being maybe 95 pounds, if that much, soaking wet... and she was an exceptionally nice person, very agreeable, and very quiet... she shall be missed...

and no practical jokes this time...

but the German English teacher, that is, the English teacher for the German students at the high school in Germany who chaperoned the trip, she was cute... there was playfulness in her eyes and mischief in her smile... unfortunately there were just a few moment to chat at the airport and then a hug and feel free to come back anytime... I should have gone to the welcome party three weeks ago...

find me somebody to love (thank you Queen)...

so we got to the airport at the appointed time, which was 10am, and then found out we'd be waiting around for a few hours... we stood around a while waiting for the straglers and then wandered the shops... then the final farewells and more hugs and so on... I used to love airports... this is the first time I've been inside one for more than a few minutes since the planes hit the towers and it is definitely no longer the friendly place it used to be... sad world we live in...

onward with the day we went... being hungry when I got home from work (and being my roommies were just as hungry), we went to our usual Italian chain restaurant for lunch and stuff face...

so much for Heidi's great influence...

I did not sleep much as we got home late (at least I don't recall slepping much, but then, I sometimes forget to sleep for days)... and then it was off to work again... that was how it happened... the day, that is...

hope I didn't leave anything out...

and this is where I wandered this week...

and this is where I wandered this week...

and this is where I wandered this week...

and this is where I wandered this week...

and this is where I wandered this week...

and this is where I wandered this week...

and this is where I wandered this week...
