another baseball entry

you may have noticed that it is baseball season around here... of course understating the obvious for my regular readers, but they are used to it, right?... apparently what is becoming just as obvious is that my regular readers (except for one, who unfortunately did not have the right computer stuff to join but who will play vicariously with me) are not interested in baseball or statistics or number games or fantasy sports cuz nobody from DLand joined the Fantasy Baseball league... oh well, some fun I have without you and that's ok... there must be some baseball fans out there, but I just did not reach them with my ramblings...

anyway, the fun continues tonight... though the draft I was telling you about all week did not take place (postponed until next week, in case you know of anyone who wants to join... I added stat categories and made the fun all the more numerical, which would be possibly called more complicated by those who don't find numbers fun)... the info was updated so if you were thinking about it you now have a second chance and if you know anybody who might be interested, please pass along the info, the link: http://candoor.diaryland.com/fantasybase.html, or my contact info (407-325-1482) so they can have fun, ok?...

it's Yahoo Fantasy Baseball league #228691... just go to the league home page (and if that doesn't work for any reason, like you don't have a Yahoo ID or whatever, just go to the Yahoo Fantasy Baseball home page and if you still can't find it just send me your email address and I'll send you an invitation) and sign up... you'll be asked if you want to join a custom league and click yes and then enter the league number (I think I removed the password, but if you have any trouble signing up, just call or email and ask and I'll walk you through it)... the name of the league is Central Florida Points but you don't have to be from around here to join (you don't even have to want to visit ever, but you are welcome to stop by if you vacation around here... seems lots of people do)... the league was already set up to test the depth of knowledge of the avid baseball fan and the adjustments I made today raised the bar, so bring your mathematical thinking cap and all the baseball knowledge you can muster and play to win,, but above all else, bring the desire to have fun...

and then, after masterfully challenging the brain to study statistics and pick the right players in that league, I joined a public league (I usually join one each year... the public leagues are generally easy and in case I don't win the more competitive leagues, I have a good change of winning the public league and therein having the chance to enter a winners league the following year... and besides, even though it's the playing I enjoy most {which is why I join at least four leagues in each sport each season}, ego likes the stroke he {yes he, egos are not intelligent enough to be female} gets from winning (shhhh, we won't tell him we make it easy for him sometimes, ok?)...

and so I just concluded another live draft and I am waiting for the server to update itself so I can see the results... I had the ninth pick and the other 11 players seemed to know what they were doing because most of my first choices were taken before I could get to them... I am looking forward to the challenge that created for me... I'll let you know how I did (like I did before when the server updates (I remember some of my picks, but not all... I am loaded at 1B with Helton, Sexton, and Huff {though Huff can play OF} and have Nen for the DL so I can grab another player {and it'll probably be Kolb for an extra reliever, though it might be Lugo for a back up infielder}... the team is balanced, but I did not get a top five player at any position except RP, 1B, and SS... I did not have a SP until the seventh or eight round, same for 2B, 3B, and OF... so my intuition and knowledge was surely tested in this draft and I ended up with Loretta at 2B, and I think I got Ramirez at 3B (because the guy ahead of me took Blalock, dangit)... and sure enough, I rambled on long enough for the site to update, so here's the team:

M. Lieberthal (Phi - C)
T. Helton (Col - 1B)
R. Sexson (Ari - 1B)
M. Loretta (SD - 2B)
A. Ramrez (ChC - 3B)
. Rentera (StL - SS)
H. Matsui (NYY - LF,CF)
M. Bradley (Cle - CF)
A. Huff (TB - 1B,RF,DH)
M. Byrd (Phi - CF)
K. Lofton (NYY - CF)
D. Jimnez (Cin - 2B)

J. Pieiro (Sea - SP)
D. Lowe (Bos - SP)
B. Wagner (Phi - RP)
O. Dotel (Hou - RP)
T. Hoffman (SD - RP)
R. Nen (SF - RP)
M. Buehrle (CWS - SP)
B. Lawrence (SD - SP)
J. Garland (CWS - SP)

as you see (if you know your baseball), I did not do bad, but I am gambling on some young players to come through with great seasons and some old players to hold it together for one more great season... injuries would hurt severely, because I don't have enough superstars to be able to give away a position... all position players must produce at least decent numbers and some must produce exceptional seasons for me to win this league... and I must be quick to identify slumpers and washouts and replace them with breakthrough players who are still free agents (before other managers grab up the surprises... and there are some surprises every year)... the team is very strong in releif numbers (Saves, ER, WHIP) IF (and it is a very big if) the RPs live up to their potential and do not get hurt... and overall the team could be strong in ERA if the pitchers have better seasons than they did last year (and they all have that potential), but there are no sure bet stat categories for this team... I was just distracted by reading about the players and setting the lineups for the next few days and then heating up food and eating and watching Along Came A Spider, which is an excellent book by an excellent author turned into a very good movie by an excellent group or actors and la de blah blah blah... distractions are so distracting...

so anyway, the third baseball league is off and running and while the competition in it is supposed to be at it's lowest among the three leagues, it may prove to be the toughest public league yet (or is that wishful thinking?)...

and then I nodded off while Silence of the Lambs started in the background... right, no exercise, too much food, not enough sleep, but oodles of relatively solitary fun (though Precious was home all day/eve/night and we ate together and talked lots, so not really alone)... and the rest, if any, will follow tomorrow (which is practically today already)... nite nite...
