keeping up with the jones

still running behind here (actually, not running much at all, which is one big reason I fall behind, but that's another story...

so I decided to try to update the RealTime blog more often and so far I am doing it, but it's kind of duller than a doorstop sometimes (or most) because there's not much going on in RealTime... I'll give you an example here just to prove the point and fill some space (and whatever else it might accomplish someday, if anything, cuz you know, or maybe you wanna)...

and I am munching on a small piece of cold pizza (kind of homemade with spinach, mushroom, sun dried tomatoes, basil, garlic, pepperoni, mozzarella, provolone, parmesan, and romano) and drinking cold water and loving the moment... The Outer Limits is on TV, looks like alien abductions and the drama between a mother and daughter in this one... I suppose I turned on the TV because I am awake and wired and lonely and want to imagine I have people around...

yesterday I went straight to the music and writing and felt much more inspired... the TV is distracting but still sort of comforting at the same time... but I already miss the music... and TV triggers food cravings... munch munch... next course, Kafka seven grain cereal and chocolate milk topped with frosted flakes...

Doritos for desert... and yeah, Ive got nothing else to talk about in RealTime today than what I eat and whats on TV... the final line of the show was something like "fear is a powerful force, but it cant compete with the love between a mother and child"... sounds great... and of course in my mind the first thought is that I wish I new that sort of love just once in this life... maybe next time... I think I like The Outer Limits (and these type of shows) because of how normal they try to make the most extraordinary or unbelievable experiences because normal is so alien to me, if that makes any sense to you)...

of course once I leave RealTime theres more stuff to talk about cuz my imagination is infinite... and what comes to mind first is the music I've been listening to most recently... the best thing about this year so far is that music is playing more and more and I'm seeing live music more and more and that is the path back to the me I was before I started wandering aimlessly through life just being a good samaritan and dreaming of the next great opportunity to fall in love...

I just thought about the fantasy baseball leagues I signed up for and seem to have too little interest in getting back to them to get back to them... this year will surely demolish my ranking at Yahoo Sports, alas, and I had a really good rank and profile over the last five or six years... well, I'll know I can do a lot better than the trophies show... and ultimately, it's just a meaningless game that's fun when I have time and feel into it... so I'm not as into it these days... I'm not as into most of the solitary activities I love...

and speaking of falling in love (was I?) and knowing it is just imaginary at the moment, let's get back to music and some more thoughts about my favorite music of the moment...

whether you view Meg and Dia as kids coloring in classic literature with crayons or young women writing short story songs that explore a range and depth of relationships far beyond their years, they have the potential to empower women... their performances invite both applause and criticism as they present sensual physical beauty, an allure that can not be missed, while teasing us with little girl chants like I can do anything I want like you and romantic dreams like you're my wish tonight... but a deeper listen to the lyrical content that Meg gives us provides an opportunity to explore a wide spectrum of human emotion and relationships...

from the ethereal sound and story of another time and place, Rebecca gives us a young servant girl who had never been in love, but was destined to follow either tradition or her heart likely both) as she offers herself to fill the life of a widower twice her age (and Harry's Mail Order Annie flashed through me when I first heard it)... to the energizing and empowering Indiana where the the simplicity of I can do anything just like you always inspires my smile... to .. .. ..

to be continued (and my favorites will be last)...

Meg borrows from the works of various writers to put characters she read about and stories that have touched her into song... while critics complain about the subject matter, I think they miss the point... what we have here is a young writer borrowing ideas from other writers, putting these ideas to music, and performing the ideas and mini-stories with a fresh edge... they've been called old for their age (probably by critics so lost in ageism and other prejudices they've long lost sight of forest for the trees they try to mark or cut down for their own vanity), innocent, nave, and unique...

their sound changes with each song, which is a rare gift that few musicians give us these days...

that might have been the start of a review if I was not distracted by something else, but heck, it's nonetheless true as I feel it and gives me (and maybe you) a better feel for why I am so high on their CD at the moment...

and the CD paused a bit too long which gave Precious time to grab the remote and turn on the TV, as usual, with a 32 ounce Pepsi in the other hand... I wish I could convey how dangerous their consumption habits are to my roommates, but like most addicts denial rules the roost...

a lot of my offline time these days is spent working and writing and pining for fiords, or something like that... mostly, keeping up with the self-expression jones I've carried around all through this life... and while some of it comes from wanting recognition and some is ego wanting praise, mostly it's a hunger for the connection that two (or a lucky few) can make in the real world when everything is exposed and accepted and loved for what it is...

meanwhile, a lot of my online time these days is spent haphazardly browsing through myspace, casually sending out add requests in the hope that a decent connection, if not that connection might happen, and waiting for myspace pages to either load or to crash my computer...

and there isn't a lot of online time at that...

and with giggles of acceptance I think... life does get more exciting than this...
