too much for myspace?

well, you may have missed the last dozen entries (and a few meant something to me, believe it or not) and you might miss this one too, but it's here for the moment and as usual, comes with the hope that you will find it and it will mean something to you too... we are what we do, after all, and so much of what I do is pour myself into words and put the words out on the web...

this entry is a replay of the latest entry I put out at myspace... most of the popular myspacers are either concerned with social or political issues or even more likely, clever story-tellers who are quick with one liners and masters at one-ups-manship... I don't know how they find time to spend hours sending one message after another in comments (often that have little or nothing to do with the original post), but that is one key to popularity...

but me, well, you know me... in life and in words, online and off, I am what I am and that's all I want to be cuz I like my way and don't go changing to try to please anybody... the popularity or even the companionship is not worth the compromise of the pleasure I get from writing as I do and being as I am... perhaps I might play in glib banter if it was something my partner enjoys, but first we'd connect on much more meaningful levels or I'd lost interest quickly if it remained superficial...

so perhaps as another experiment in social networking (or more likely another attempt to believe {however foolish that may be} in the hope that this internet thing, these messages in entries, might be the way to connect with others and reach deeper into hearts and minds... and maybe find understandings we'd be afraid to explore face to face... and maybe find friends and partners more compatible than those we might meet in our daily lives... and maybe I am a dreamer, but maybe I am not the only one... so here's another message to the universe, via myspace and now diaryland, for anyone who might listen, hear, understand, and care...

there's a place for the sadness and a place for the joy
and a place for the comfort and a place for each toy
there's a place for the grieving and a place for the blessed
and this place is myspace, in case you've not guessed
and when was the last time you confessed?

this one goes out to the sad eyes I see as I wander the streets and alleys of my space long into the night... this one is for the ones who are afraid to approve a friend request or who story to hide in this very public place... I mean, think about it, this is a public bulletin board anyone with a computer can see, why come here if it's just to tack a sealed envelope containing your secrets to the wall?... there are so many more private online communities, still public bulletin boards, but with hundreds, not millions looking in each day...

still, I wish you would open up and feel more secure about yourself and more, feel the potential for positive sharing that can happen here... sure, reality is that two thirds of humans will not be able to afford a computer in their lifetimes, two thirds of humans consider themselves lucky if they get to eat each day... but hundreds of millions, maybe up to a billion humans will be online in the next decade or so (maybe sooner) and we have the opportunity to reach out and share our concerns, our hopes, our visions, our dreams, and our honest feelings with people from so many different parts of this world...

how can we justify ignoring this opportunity to open our minds and share our hearts and reach for understanding and common ground as human beings in this world where political and ideological conflicts threaten our very existence?... the cynic in me responds by reminding me we can ignore this opportunity as easily as we ignore the poisons we consume or discard each day, as easily as we ignore the many millions of starving children or other innocents dying long before their natural life span should end...

but this entry is not one for the soap box derby, it is a more personal message... this one is my attempt to take this opportunity to confess... I care... as cynical or corrupt or hypocritical or ambivalent or angry or irreverent or flippant or apathetic or fed up as I might get, I care... I care about you... I don't expect you to respond, but my mailbox is open, my phone on (and the number is scattered through my entries here and other places)... you are very welcome to test my sincerity... and I trust that you will know who you are when you read this...

I look at your picture
I see your sad eyes
I know that you're lonely
do you feign surprise?

I wish I could hold you
tell you it's alright
for everyone's lonely
alone every night

I look at your myspace
I see your despair
you wonder why do it
will anyone care?

I wish I could be there
I would hold your hand
and let you know someone
you can understand

we are innocent people
we've all made mistakes
we've not had the best luck
we've had some bad breaks

we don't want to be angry
or cynical yet
there are things that still hurt us
and things we regret
and things we would rather
just sooner forget

maybe someday an answer
will knock on our door
and remind us that living
is what we're here for

maybe someday a reason
will reach deep inside
and touch us and mean it
where we are denied

and maybe you would rather
I not see you hide
but I look at your picture
and see you have cried
when I look at your picture
I see every tear you have cried

and I wish I could show you
you're not as alone
as you may be feeling
there out on your own

and I wish I could help you
find comfort and peace
for I look at your picture
and see a smile wanting release

we are innocent people
we've all made mistakes
we've not had the best luck
we've had some bad breaks

we don't want to be angry
or cynical yet
there are things that still hurt us
and things we regret
and things we would rather
just sooner forget

maybe someday an answer
will knock on our door
and remind us that living
is what we're here for

maybe someday a reason
will reach deep inside
and touch us where it hurts
where we've been denied

and maybe you would rather
I not see you hide
but I look at your picture
and say that's a lie
when I look at your picture
I see you want someone to love you
you want someone to touch you inside

and I wish I could show you
you're not as alone
as you may be feeling
there out on your own

and I wish I could help you
find comfort and peace
for I look at your picture
and see a smile wanting release
a beautiful smile and a heart
wanting release

we are innocent, people, because we do not wake up with any intent to hurt anyone... we do not go out into our day with any plans to hurt anyone... sure, we can do better in helping each other, in taking care of each other and the planet, in living up to the ideals we'd like to call our own... but it is not our intention to destroy or hurt... it is our fear, our loneliness, our insecurity, our misunderstanding that leads us to close our eyes and blindly support the destruction of the planet - or a people who are different from us in some way...

we have the opportunity to be honest here... we have the opportunity to think aloud and really say ((write) what we mean... and most important of all, we have the opportunity to try to understand our differences and reach for our common ground... except for a very few who need medical care, we all want peace... we all want our children - or at least ourselves if we have no children - to feel and be safe... we all want to live a good life and not feel pain...

we have the opportunity to settle differences with a pen and keyboard as humans have never been able to do before... I hope enough of us choose to do that before this opportunity passes...

in every language, in every way, in every thing you do, I wish you peace...
