old TV and unfinished thoughts

watching MacGyver this morning (and recalling a few times I caught part of the show in the last week or two), I recall a time when I lived with my a wonderful child who loved the show (and idolized the star), so I watched it often because she and I did most everything together when I was home (I worked a lot and went to school full time, so I wasn't home much)... her love of the show got me into it and I admired the simplicity of the ingenuity with which MacGyver got out of what were sometimes somewhat ridiculous situations... and what struck me most was how predictable the formula shows were back then (and I wonder if they still are)... and can one man (usually the hero) still knock another man out cold with one punch?... what I found a little disturbing was how far from real-to-life the shows were and how even the shows I remember with sensitive enlightened males (like MacGyver), the macho crap was still considered the climax...

maybe that's what's missing from my life, conflict, macho crap... maybe that would improve things, bring more people around, friends, lovers, relationships... maybe that's what one needs to be popular, to be attractive... maybe I should growl more...

or perhaps it's just that I am too sarcastic...

anyway, when I look at the beady-eye pea-brain leadership of humanity these days, I realize that I would not want to be their hero even if I had the right stuff... I mean, what is there to do?... dominate the world?... control the planet's natural resources?... promote or protect some archaic fear-based system of beliefs by putting down and condemning other archaic fear-based systems of belief (and pretending they are not basically the same so that the conflict can distract from the thievery and power trips that are really behind the call for heroes and god-followers?)...

or perhaps it's just that I am too cynical...

anyway, any wonder why I'd rather watch some science fiction show?... for it seems to take science fiction to allow for beings that rise above the petty possessive power struggles and instant gratification culture that is based on subconscious flash orgasms and one-punch knockouts as if such macho posturing had real meaning in the grand scheme of things in the universe other than the banal ego gratification so many humans seem to crave... I just don't get that when there are so many more positive things to become addicted to...

. . .

that's where that entry ended... I have no idea why, most likely a distraction (and after all, that's life)... like the sudden question from Fred Savage that brings us into a conversation between Fred and Peter Falk (and out of the magical story of The Princess Bride, not that the previous few paragraphs were in any way magical, but maybe you get the point?), we are back in reality (or is this the story?) and it seems that either place or time (as if there were two or more of either), we are faced with a plethora (or is that a confabulation?... or perhaps you'd prefer a conflaguration?) of rhetorical questions and other words that may or may not be meant to be thought provoking but are most probably meant to pass the time...

perhaps we shall revisit the thread of thought (or path, if you like) once again some day, but for today I am feeling anti-cynical (though still apt to be full of rhetoric and questions, mayhaps... or would that be mayhap?) and less apt to stress or struggle with world politics or religions or the human condition...

maybe you can step out of it now and then too, or should I say, I hope you can too... it's healthier for all of us that way... and as for this way, I'll conclude this entry now (perhaps leaving it with the feeling of being unfinished, a technique that seems to work well for serial television and Stephen King novels, though this was purely unintentional on any conscious level), simply because I am in the mood to ponder navel lint and other less taxing subjects...

and besides, I don't believe in one punch knock-outs much...
