2005-01-23 - 11:56 p.m. don't show me the news during this entry I was glancing up at The Return of the Pink Panther for a laugh or many now and then, I am here to smile atcha and celebrate life and see where that gets us... yes, the sleep was wonderful... and yes, I took tonight off... dear Berry (co-worker, in case you didn't catch her introduction many many entries ago... one day maybe I'll do a cast page, but not today) is so good to me (it's mutual, she wants some overtime and I'm willing to take time off so she can get it)... but I digress... I was telling you about the various audio-visual stimuli and stuff influencing me during this entry (which is partially written and I've paused to provide you with this introduction just cuz I can and want to)... besides Inspector Clouseau, there was The Outer Limits, The Twilight Zone, Beyond Belief, In The Cut (ah, rather dreadful film except for the fact that dear Meg Ryan take the orgasm scene from When Harry Met Sally much more seriously, one step beyond, or more even), Numbers (which is a new show with two of my favorite faces, Sabrina Lloyd and a new one, though it might go the way of The Dark Half which I don't watch even though a favorite Nicole de Boer is in it simply cuz I don't watch TV enough to get in any sort of routine), the soundtrack of Wicked, and as if you don't know already, Harry Chapin... and for the record, I've lived some of Harry's songs and for better or worse, I was once a wealthy white man (it may come up later)... all that and some browsings lead me to ponder... if history is accurate, the first European people came to what is now called North America to escape religious persecution and freedom of religion was supposed to be a basic right in the constitution when the United States of America was founded... that would mean that no one religion should dominate the rules by which the government sets laws that determine how we are allowed to live freely, right?... well, think again... in this land of the free, morality based on a specific religion seems to be the basis of many of the laws that restrict our choices in this life... and money and convenience... all men are created equal... first off, the founding fathers, as they are called, based the fundamental truth of equality on a creator, a god... but which god they did not say (even though they seemed to have leaned heavily toward one or a few over the years)... and then, they took the gender in the words seriously as women had to wait more than a hundred years to even get a hint of what it might mean to be created equal... but at least they didn't lie about that in presenting their version of a fundamental truth... they did, however, lie about all men... they left out the words white and wealthy... all white and wealthy men are created equal would be much more accurate words to represent how this USA was founded and governed for most of it's history... and then, after almost two hundred years of pretending to be the land of the free where equality rules, a few monumental additions were made to the rules, the constitution and the original words were a little closer to being the law, but still... it was convenient for the wealthy to ignore the fundamental truth when it came to non-white men... and I am still trying to figure out how anyone can be proud of that history... but that is just one glaring example of the hypocrisy and religious influences that are based not in spiritual enlightenment, but rather in power trips and greed (but we won't get into the history of the church just now... I think we'll explore more recent history in the secular world... I don't know why... be generous and call it social conscience and we can pretend it's not just the mischief that is borne of boredom)... ready or not, here come the links... ok, maybe you already know that I do not pay attention to the news because I do not like the way the human race acts or the deer-in-headlights reports on it's worst accident scenes, horrible acts, and most embarrassing moments, but weren't the US troops supposed to be out of Iraq by now?... I looked back on some conversations and quotations about Iraq (and not just about Iraq)... the president (or what he has said or even what others have said) isn't what is scary, what is scary is that this country willingly elected a war-mongerer (who smirks too much to be taken seriously and in that way, gets away with more than any leader who might be taken seriously... but what is really true, aye?)... what is scary is that there are enough people blind to enlightened thought or who have forgotten 20th century history so that history can perhaps repeat itself... think, dangit... humans have somehow convinced themselves over and over that war is some great answer, a final solution to the question of how to live in peace... ultimately, once again the wealthy white men have figured out how to convince enough people that our tax dollars should go into their pockets... meet the new boss, same as the old boss, and sorry Virginia, we have been fooled again... so here are some sites I want to check out further: hypocrits anyway, could be there only was one choice... but I made another one anyway, just because I wanted to be defiant... different... unique... or the undercover rebel... just keep playing... maybe it's time to go pink...
