so what about that college football?

if you're not into it, just skip ahead a bit, but for those of you who enjoy the statistical surprises and enthusiasm for the game (in spite of it's bone crushing macho madness, which is not my favorite part of the experience, but it is an essential aspect of the game)... I'll admit that I am much more into the game when I am around people who are into the game (and that goes for any game cuz I love sharing the fun) and Rasputin is a major Ohio State fan...

and it could be a very good year for Ohio State...

in fact, I personally think Ohio State beat itself in the last few years, maybe since 2002, and nobody actually beat them, but that could be Raspy's influence... I lean toward wanting to see a playoff in college football because the best teams should get to play each other at least once when they are undefeated... there should be only one undefeated team when all is said and done and they are champions because they beat the others (if there is more than one)...

one of my work friends (I'll be giving more work friends names in the near future now that I work day shift and will be interacting with them more... whether they ever find their way to this babbling is up to them... hi if you're out there, but I doubt any will... most are not very computer savvy and at least from what they talk about, few are online much or into browsing websites and reading blogs, diaries, or journals) is a huge Michigan fan, so it's fun to root Michigan on (until they play Ohio State)... and then another work person is a big Iowa fan, so there's a lot of Big Ten rooting and razzing around the hospital... and as usual, Notre Dame has fans (they are everywhere)... and now that I am on the day shift I can enjoy it more...

so we watch college football each week...

and this week, Michigan may have ended Notre Dame's chances to make it to the championship game (though college football is not that predictable to say they are out of it)... on the other hand, Michigan boosted itself into the top ten and quite possibly close to the top five by soundly beating #2 Notre Dame... there will be much razzing from the Michigan fans at work come Monday...

I think Auburn and LSU both proved they belong in the top ten, though LSU lost and may drop out of the top ten to make room for Michigan and Louisville (who soundly defeated Miami, which is the end of a great season for them {Miami} too since they lost to Florida State in the first game of the season and with Florida State losing to Clemson today, that deflates Miami even more)...

and speaking of the Clemson-Florida State rivalry (a father-son coaching rivalry), I've gotta wonder if the son Bowden has an emotional edge on the father Bowden which effects the father's coaching during the annual Bowden bowl... or maybe Miami and Florida State are just not that good this year (woah, thems fighting words around these parts, y'all)... personally, I've never been much of a Florida team fan, though I did root for the Dolphins way back when they ran a wishbone...

shhh, old is a state of mind...

Notre Dame probably won't drop out of the top ten simply because they are Notre Dame and tradition (and the undercurrent of religion) usually gives them a bit more than they deserve, but I think they should... almost as golden is USC, who soundly beat Nebraska (who, like Oklahoma, is overrated and another underachiever, though Oklahoma was beaten by the referees today and not by Oregon, which is a shame as the records and history will never show that)...

USC will probably be ranked second after Ohio State come Monday's college football polls, but they are probably as good on any given day as the next five teams, Auburn, West Virginia, Florida, Michigan, Georgia, Louisville, (who are all undefeated so far) and then just barely behind with one loss LSU, Tennessee...

after this weekend teams like Notre Dame, Florida State, Miami, Nebraska, are suspect because of the way they were beaten and need to prove themselves if they want to be in the top ten... and while some of the rest of the top twenty five (Virginia Tech, Iowa, Oklahoma, Oregon, TCU, California, Arizona State, Boston College, Texas Tech, Penn State) may be undefeated, they need to be tested against more quality opponents to be considered top ten... and these random thoughts about college football were brought to you by... me...
