2004-06-19 - 4:20 p.m. watching movies on TV ok, what if there was a musical where Drew Barrymore, Julia Roberts, Goldie Hawn, Natalie Portman, Edward Norton, Alan Alda, Woody Allen, Tim Roth, and others all sang and danced (sometimes like like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, sometimes like the Marx Brothers... actually, the Fred and Ginger number done by Woody and Goldie might even have a touch of the Matrix in it)... well, it's the kind of film you might have to be giddy (or wasted) to enjoy, like many Woody Allen semi-serious pathos films (is there a single film he ever did that was not all about how insecure and lonely and pathetic he can be?)... but late at night when the giggles are ready to flow, it was amusing... really, it did happen... who is Tim Roth, someone asked... yes, I heard you... well, he is a favorite of Quentin Tarantino, if that matters to you, was in Pulp Fiction, Reservior Dogs, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, and other films... he has six films coming out in 2004 and one scheduled for release in 2005... but what he might be most famous (or infamous) for is not that he turned down the role for Sid Vicious Sid and Nancy, but rather, in order to take the role of General Thade in the remake of Planet of the Apes, he dropped out of the role of Professor Snape, yes, the Professor Severus Snape from the Harry Potter goldmine... so instead of being set for life and blessed with that rare and coveted actor's gift of being able to write his own ticket, he is still Tim who? more often than he might like... ah, but Tim, I jest and test your sense of humor (hopefully he's laughing too)... later on, Anne Parillaud interested libido in Shattered Image (that's the 1998 film, not to be confused with the 1996 or 1994 films by the same name)... actually, her look and character reminded me (dangerously, I suppose) way too much of someone I once knew in Toronto... ah, memories... at least I didn't have it as bad as the guy in this film, I mean I didn't get shot at... much... and then I watched Amy Irving wrestle with stupid cultural prides and prejudices in Crossing Delancey, which reminded me of living in New York City and the longer I am away the more I miss the excitement and energy and culture and activity and diversity and feel of living there... probably because I forget the tension and stress and hostility and dangers that were part of everyday life just walking around the streets or sleeping without bars on windows in the city... ah, memories... seems NYC has been sending out siguls of late... then, browsed the TV for something else to watch... there was something on the SCi-Fi channel I almost watched, Wes Craven's Mind Ripper, something about a ressurected worker that comes back to life with an appetite for brains... yum... and then there was Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas (hmmmm, Tim Burton again, huh?... oh, he did the remake of Planet of the Apes, in case you didn't follow this particular huh... not to be confused with Tim who?, of course)... and there's still Pocahontas (which I haven't seen), a library DVD that Precious ordered, along with The Bourne Identity (the remake, which I have seen) that is still here... but I stopped on the Science channel to see microscopic film of things that live on the human body... lice, fleas, bed bugs, mites, ticks, worms, and so on... now I want to take a shower... a long steamy hot shower... and as I go I stumble upon a completely different thought, I want to hear more of what David Byrne is doing these days...
