and what did I do?... drive... after work (and still no sleep), I loaded up the car and was on the road north and four and a half hours later I was sitting on the side of 485 (I think) just outside of Macon, GA, waiting for gas... yes, I ran out of gas, again... you'd think that once this past week was enough, but no, I had to do it again... luckily I had road service with my car insurance cuz I let my AAA membership expire last year... just forgot about it... I had been disillusioned with AAA for a while cuz they kept trying to take away my years of membership whenever I renewed and every time I moved the benefits changed and not for the better... the company sucks, but that's just one 30-year member's opinion... me, I agree... but anyway, we were out on the highway waiting for gas...

you see, I found this rather cooperative trucker who was in a great hurry to get where he was going and it just happened to be where I was going and we both wanted to get there before rush hour... anyone who has experienced Atlanta (or any major city) during evening rush hour might understand not wanting to get caught in it)... so this very cooperative trucker lead the way most of the trip and we made it to Macon in four hours (from east of Orlando... not bad)... unfortunately my gas gauge swore I had a whole eight of a tank left when the engine went put put (or putt putt) and there I was sitting on the side of the highway waiting for gas... the trucker probably never noticed since we didn't actually discuss our symbiotic relationship, he just bullied people out of our way and I tagged along for the ride...

needless to say I did not make it to Atlanta before rush hour... so I wandered off the highway and found a place to eat dinner while everybody else on the highway waited in their cars for everybody else on the highway to move along... rush hour is a strange phenomenon with an even stranger name... I mean, rushing is the last thing done and it's usually more than an hour, but anyway, we do love our oxymorons...

I finally got to Chattanooga and sure enough, there were plans... I think shopping... you know kids, first question is "what did you bring me?"... well, we've progressed to the unspoken "let's go get me something" cuz, after all, we are not kids anymore... they got a home theater system... and a few other things... weddings are expensive, even when they are home-made... life would be a lot cheaper if I didn't adopt people...

but of course I love them dearly and wish I could give more (but not enough to get ambitious and play the make-money games again, huh?)... eventually we got to their place and I fell asleep... at least I think I slept... and that was Monday...
