the local New Orleans newspaper is receiving email from people dying... people forgotten and worse, people ignored even though they have contacted authorities and reported being trapped at their location...

what?... you don't believe it?... call them up... call or email their relatives who have been notfying authorities and who are being ignored... they are not anonymous complainers playing politics, they are real people begging for their lives and the lives or their loved ones... and it gets worse...

as our fearless leader says, this is not acceptible...

these people left in New Orleans to die want to believe they will be saved, they want to believe in the government and the President... they want to believe his visit was not just a photo opportunity and lip service because he was told that New Orleans is his Administration's Titanic...

doesn't anybody follow the President's orders?...

what Hurricane Katrina proved beyond the shadow of a doubt is just how far out of touch with reality and the people our government leaders are... we now know that the chain of command is broken and the people do not matter until the leaders are publically humiliated by irrefutable evidence that they are not responding to the needs of the people...

and then the spin doctors go to work...

I was reading transcripts of Anderson Cooper interviews and felt fear as I read what Trent Lott and others had to say... was it just that he was in shock, suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome, or is he really so much out of touch with reality and so deep in denial that he doesn't hear himself contradicting himself and making no sense?...

Cooper: So you're pleased with the Federal government's response?

Lott: I AM pleased with the federal government's response...this is not a time for complaining...I am really shocked at the comments that are coming.

shocked that people dying on their rooftops and mothers holding dying babies because there's no milk or clean water for days or people fearing rape in a city abandoned by authority are commenting on their pending deaths?...

shocked that anyone question the leadership when the Hurricane Warnings were broadcasted loud and clear days before it hit land and the serious, meaningful response from the government started five days after the skies cleared?...

I guess Lott didn't get the memo that Bush was going to admit he considered the response unacceptible...

this is pathetic leadership...

I found americablog raised some interesting, albeit sarcastic (not that I am immune to the affectation) thoughts about the leadership...

It would be one thing if President Bush and his inner circle - Dick Cheney was vacationing in Wyoming; Condi Rice was shoe shopping at Ferragamo's on Fifth Avenue and attended "Spamalot" before bloggers chased her back to Washington; and Andy Card was off in Maine - lacked empathy but could get the job done. But it is a chilling lack of empathy combined with a stunning lack of efficiency that could make this administration implode."

and this was attributed to the New Orleans newspaper Times-Picyune, though I had not found a link to it today so if it is a hoax, I wish someone from the newspaper would respond to the inquiries I and others have made about it...

Bush visit halts food delivery

Three tons of food ready for delivery by air to refugees in St. Bernard Parish and on Algiers Point sat on the Crescent City Connection bridge Friday afternoon as air traffic was halted because of President Bush�s visit to New Orleans, officials said.

The provisions, secured by U.S. Rep. Charlie Melancon, D-Napoleonville, and state Agriculture Commissioner Bob Odom, baked in the afternoon sun as Bush surveyed damage across southeast Louisiana five days after Katrina made landfall as a Category 4 storm, said Melancon�s chief of staff, Casey O�Shea.

�We had arrangements to airlift food by helicopter to these folks, and now the food is sitting in trucks because they won�t let helicopters fly,� O�Shea said Friday afternoon.

The food was expected to be in the hands of storm survivors after the president left the devastated region Friday night, he said.

that Bush was taking advantage of the tragedy for the powerful the photo opportunity it was became so evident that at least one reported actually stated that on the air... and he's going to do it again on Monday...

is he really that ignorant?... it seems obvious that the area the PResident visits is pretty much shut down to traffic onn the ground and in their air... that is to be expected on any Presidential visit anywhere... and in a hostile city bordering on anarchy, it should be any different?... if anything, everything would be even more lovked down than usual when a President visits a city where snipers are firing on police...

and people will continue to justify and defend his irresponsible and negligent leadership (and many other governement officials just as incompetent and unqualified) because so many people live in denial...

somebody please turn off the news...

I want to focus on the good we can do... but every day the news just gets worse, the errors in handling the New Orleans flooding in the first week are compounding and the death toll may never be accurately reported because it is obscenely high...

when does incompetence become criminal negligence?...

that's straight from the biggest newspaper in New Orleans... or at least it was in New Orleans... it is currently publishing from Baton Rouge because there is no more New Orleans... it was drowned and burned because nobody gave a damn about it or the people left in it for too long after the greatest disaster in the history of this country (at least that is what the leaders are calling it... that's one way to prepare us for the death toll)...

go ahead, call some numbers, write some emails, and hope they might still get through to a living breathing human at the other emd...

I need a prayer for ignorance, because I want to be ignorant of all this information... I want to go on vacation like Bob and pretend everything is alright... no, truly believe everything is alright... I want to have dinner with the fam and be peace, or quiet, or both even... and I want someone else to pay my travel and living expenses and to be paid well for it... isn't there a way I can do that without going into politics?...

does this self-riteous self-proclaimed God-fearing administration not believe that their God is watching what they are doing and not doing in New Orleans?...

what good are prayers in schools or In God We Trust on our money and family values if you do not follow the words you preach, if you do not follow your commandments, if you invalidate your very gospel through your careless and callous words and deeds?...

the New Orleans Flood of 2005 is proving that the words are just lip service, that the money we give you, our government, is being wasted on who knows what, your pet projects no doubt, instead of being used to truly be prepared for an emergency...

how much are we spending on a bridge for a town of 8000 people in Alaska?... 300 million?... more?... the estimate is it'll cost tens of thousands of dollars per person per trip across the bridge... who's paying that toll?...

let's keep sucking on the oil pumps as if they were penises, for the financial orgasms we give the industry leaders might as well be equated with the rape it is...

and what crap are you getting away with in Iraq this week while it fades to second place on the hot news of the day list?... planting some weapons of mass destruction, perhaps?... helping with some genocide?... raping a few young women or children?...
