football weekend

we begin here...

college football on the tube
laundry in the wash
just sitting here nearly nude
thinking about squash

healthy food is on my mind
but not on my plate
hot wings, taters, pizza, dude
that is what I ate

football weekends
that's that autumn means
football weekends
friends come over
where did I put my jeans

football weekends
some may call it fall
but this season has it all
for those who heed the call
of men and blood and sweat and guts
hitting and shoving and digging in ruts
and no the cheerleaders are not all sluts
though some take the fall
this season is the season of football
football weekends
gather round the football

yeah, I know, I'm sort of odd... maybe not even sort of... but hey, it's fun to play with words and you know (well, you ought to know by now) that my rhymes are how I paint pictures of the life I live and/or the life around me (and in case you haven't read the disclaimer, not necessarily expressing the opinion of me or my ideals and favorite interests)...

personally, I am much more into the stats of sports and glance up at great athletic efforts (great plays) now and then, but mostly "watch" sports when I am sitting at the living room computer tapping away happily about whatever I am rambling on about...

though I do appreciate (and know) the physical effort and strategies involved in executing a play and putting a winning score on the scoreboard... deep down, I still prefer George Carlin's bit on football to the actual violence of the game... on balance, while I enjoy much of everything, I prefer the intellectual cleverness to the brute force of life...

see, little tid bits of information about the me behind the words behind the babble behind the candoor do pop into this life in black and white and other places I write semi-regularly... for those of you who are interested, that is...

something weird happened to the computer this morning... it locked up overnight and the registry program ran when I rebooted and everything was reset to an old registry... so many changes... the photos of Meg Ryan are gone from the desk top (and nothing is there except icons to files, it's black, and I know I had other faces on the desktop before Meg but I just don't remember who they were... I think maybe one or two are listed in the fuel for fantasies section of the RealTime blog...

one weird thing is that my MS Word program reverted back to a time I used a blue background with white lettering (and all sorts of little tweaks reset)... that sucks because it takes time to set programs just the way I like them... one thing about MS Word that frequently bugs me is how the AutoCorrect feature resets... I keep telling it the way I want it to work and it keeps resetting to default and I have no idea why except that the computer locks up and has to be rebooted by simply shutting it off with the power button cuz none of the keyboard shortcuts (like Alt-CTRL-Delete) work...

maybe it's a Win98 flaw...

it sucks though...

I wish someone would create a universal operating system with compatible full featured programs that did not crash and reset frequently... I wish greed did not effect productivity and efficiency at every point along the way in our modern technological industrial society... I wish enough human beings would wake up and become conscious and aware that most of what we do as a species is working against actually progressing as a species because most of what we do is working against what others are trying to do even when everyone is actually intending to advance knowledge and comfort and peace and happiness and enlightenment and a better life for humanity...

ok, maybe I'll leave that rant alone for now...

anyway, even my WindowsXP Professional at work on a 2.8Ghz 512Mb RAM machine occasionally locks up and crashes on me... I suppose that sometimes it's cuz I am working on an Access database (building databases and queries, so with a few {at least} windows open), an Excel Spreadsheet or two (migrating data from the spreadsheets to the databases requires that), an MS Word document at the same time and 512Mb just can't handle it, and checking my mail on the web with IE (it might get worse when they finally allow us to access email through Outlook next week) but still, why not make hardware that is capable of handling software and why build software with so many bugs and crash-points...

it makes no sense, unless, of course, keeping a dissatisfied consumer base eager to try something new that will work better is beneficial for a company that holds a virtual monopoly makes sense to you... hmmmm, I suppose the business logic is in there... after all, we (Windows users) are always looking for the next update or next version of the software, always hoping it'll work better and finally be the software that does not crash a lot...

I dub Microsoft Crashalot...

there, maybe knighthood will help them care about their consumers more than their profit margins and repeat business... don't they realize that just about anyone with any computer savvy who can afford Mac products uses a Mac?... I wonder how far Linux and other OS software have come... I mean, is there a suite of software comparable to and easily compatible with MS Office files out there?...

I should ask my resident computer geniuses (here on the web, I'm the most proficient at the hospital, which is so sad in this day and age) to teach me more about computers... of course I might have to move to Sandy Eggo to get any real education in the details I need to learn... I am, on a sort of side note, remembering much of what I had forgotten I knew about databases as I play with the MS Access program at work... once upon a time I was very proficient in Paradox 3.5 and built relational databases with ease... I've forgotten most of the details and have to find the same skills with MS Access, but it's slowly coming along...

. o O ( pause for the laundry ) O o .

yeah, so I went on a more specific rant... and I sorted my piles of dirty clothes into bins ready for the washing machine and threw a second load in the machine and the Saturday College Football and Washday is on it's way... I think I am determined to do all of the wash today, which will take some time... though Rasputin has a friend throwing a birthday party for her daughter tonight and if he feels up to it (he's at work now and doesn't sound too great), he and Precious are going and I might go too...

that might kill the cleaning bug that started biting this week, but then, maybe I'll just continue when I get back and tomorrow... the danger of finally unpacking every box and throwing out all the unnecessary baggage and tidying up all of my areas is that I might start becoming more frustrated with their messes like I used to back when they first moved in... especially if I actually feel like increasing my social life and having some new people over...

I suppose I ought to consider fixing my bed somewhere in that process, but that's another story for another time... for now, I'll leave you with this thought...

love...
