the phone line was down this morning when I got home from work and the decible levels of the blowers and dehumidifiers make for minimal conversation and no TV (a blessing in disguise), so I read some Harry Potter and slept... still feeling drowsy (could be the mold/mildew in the air and also this body is fighting off an infection of some sort)...

I woke a few minutes ago to find a circuit breaker blew out and Precious doing laundry... probably not a wise move with eight power-hungry drying machines plugged in, so I suggested she not turn on the washer/dryer anymore (especially since there is leaking right above the machines and in the walls behind the machines... yeah)...

of course the circuit breaker was for my room so my dehumidifier was turned off for the last eight hours or more while I slept... so the stench of mold/mildew is back in there...

we also have new leaks... my closet and bathroom (the insulation must be soaked up there), the light fixture in the hall just above the washer/dryer, and the roommie's bathroom and bedrooms... I called maintenance and they did come over (which is good, since it's well after normal business hours... Precious said she called at about 6pm, but they must have brushed her off since nobody came out... I told her to wake her dad, first, then me next time... and especially if there is a leak in the light fixture right above an appliance {washer/dryer}, do not use that appliance)...

ahem...

the maintenance guy said that they removed all the roofing today and as they were doing it (like about 3PM), it started pouring... of course it did, it rains here every day about three PM in the summer time... so it's the perfect time to schedule a roofer to remove the roofing, right...

he realized I was not a happy camper and assured me that the next water in the apartment was due to that ill-timed re-roofing and there should be no more water coming through and the building inspectors will be through again tomorrow to check the water in the walls and they will not pass the place as inhabitable unless the walls have completely dried out...

so it's technically not inhabitible now?...

I asked him about changing all of the insulation and he hedged (to be expected, since it's not his call), but the message will be passed along to his bosses and I'll be in their offices in the morning, if necessary, dumping a dripping piece of insulation on their nice clean and dry desks (Business 101: an effective prop is essential for a great presentation)...

"yes, it's messy, but you do not have to sleep under it, do you"

"the good news is that it is not dripping on your heads as you sleep"

of course a big well-meaning smile is essential for the proper presentation... I think they will get the message...

and now, with the Douglas Adams kind of happiness that comes from knowing that whatever can go wrong often will and sometimes the best we can do is sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride, it's time to go to work...
