how many days does it take to get to the center of the universe?

I suppose it depends upon where you start, not to mention how fast you are traveling... or maybe the answer is none, because we are already there... it is possible that everywhere is the center of the universe once we let go of the whole time-space continuum theory and accept chaos and the unpredictability of subatomic particles and most of all, the unknown... distance becomes as relative as time when traveling beyond the speed of light as we know it and who is to say there are not many things and beings traveling much faster (as we know speed) than that, all invisible to our eyes and passing through our matter-oriented space the way some sub-atomic particles seem to appear and disappear at random...

we are energy in the form of matter, after all.. our thoughts that make us aware of our consciousness and therein convince us we are alive are little more than very basic chemical reactions in our brains... how simple can a consciousness be, in the fundamental bio-chemical sense (and is viewing it as a bio-chemical process already complicating it beyond the point of understanding how simple it can be?... perhaps there are sub-atomic beings laughing at my clumsy thought process right now... and I think, with a grin, I kind of hope so)...

I love pondering the possibility that anything is possible and imagining what the universe and every day life would be like if we really don't know everything and some of the fundamental laws of physical science were misinterpretations of the limited data we can collect at the present time with our present equipment and senses... how many years ago was it that we could not measure body temperature or the amount of light a retina could safely absorb or the distance of a micron?... and how do we know that we are the first civilization (or species, for that matter) to develop brains that can process thought information as we do?... how do we know that others have not walked the same paths we travel in knowledge only to reach some end that left little or no trace of them?...

we can not know what happened in the billions of years this planet has existed, no less what happened on the relatively infinite number of planets out beyond out thin atmosphere... our definitions of life and parameters for measurement are so finite, so limited by our dependency on space and time and the social needs that dominate our lives... we are, by and large as a collective species, still not much beyond the first level of Maslow's hypothetical pyramid... our human-kind has perhaps shown a tiny spark of enlightenment now and then, but even then, it is so very limited in scope, imagination, and knowledge...

if the premise that anything is possible because the possibilities are infinite is not true, then surely there are enough possibilities in this universe to so that if we were to imagine one every second we live, we'd barely get to a fraction of a percent of the overall possibilities of known knowledge in one lifetime... so in the end, the span of our lives in these corporeal shells limits us to but an infinitesimal fraction of the experiences and knowledge that is possible...

so where is that one singularity, that one unified theory that explains everything in a single thought?...

it is perhaps much too simple for us to grasp with our current thought processes... or perhaps, as the God-fearing might suggest, it is much too vast a thought for us to contain in our tiny minds... but whether we are too big or too small, whether we are too simple or too complex, the fact remains that we do not know... no matter what your faith, no matter how much you believe in any single possibility, the truth is nobody knows...

every explanation of life, the universe, and everything is but a house of cards, a figment of our imaginations (individual or collective)... every thought is an illusions, perhaps even our very existence is merely a thought in our mind that lasts however ling we live... and in the minds of those who remember us for however long they remember... how many billions of human beings are long forgotten as if they never existed except in some vague concept we might call prehistoric man?... or even feudal man?... or even the working class hero?...

let's consider the story of Jesus Christ... did the person who forged the nail that was hammered through the hand into the wood exist?... perhaps in the vague sense that there was a nail, therefore someone forged it, therefore someone existed to forge it, but is that a life?... one moment of anonymous action is all that is left of that forger of nails... and yet, this person was part of the most acutely explored and frequently repeated story in all human history...

what of this nail forger's cousin's sister's uncle's wife?... was she any less real?... did she exist?... did the uncle?... the sister?... the cousin?... perhaps the nail forger was an only child and none of those others existed... and here and now in our daily lives we experience the struggle of movement, the drama of emotion, the feeling that we are alive and matter and have some purpose... we create such a network of thoughts, each one based on the premise that the other thought is valid... we think, therefore we are... and yet, are we?...

what is existence, what is consciousness, what is awareness, what is life... what is enlightenment, what is knowledge, what is the answer?... anything is possible, or at least, we can spend our lives exploring different possibilities every moment or explore several in depth over the course of many years and in the end, the most wise person must, if he or she is to be honest, shrug his or her shoulders and accept that all we know we know only on faith... on belief... on hypothesis...

it is perhaps enough to accept a single thought or a series of thoughts that become a system of belief, a way of conceiving life and everything... it is perhaps enough to believe we know and forget we do not... as I view humanity, it seems enough for many and yet, perhaps the friction (wars, at it's most violent) between thoughts that become systems of belief that forget they might be wrong prove that it is not nearly enough for human kind to simply believe we know... for if it was enough, we'd be secure and not feel the need to change, convert, or kill others who believe differently...

from my perspective, which is merely my thought, we can only hope we realize we do not know anything and anything is possible and let that be the amusement, the security, and the faith we live by as we blink in and out of existence in the span of our lives relative to the span of the universe... maybe then, by accepting ignorance, we will begin to learn how to enjoy existence and have the right to call it living...
