blogathons and other strangers

yes I know, the previous entry was unfinished, but this one just came pouring out and that's just the way it goes sometimes...

blame him...

way back in 2003, I stumbled across Blogathon and being the incessant babbler (what, you didn't know I was an incessant babbler?) that I am (well I am), I was quite tickled by the idea and jumped in head first, naturally... the idea was to create a blog/diary/journal entry every fifteen minutes for a consecutive twenty-four hours... I was keeping up with the funda at the time and there seemed to be the perfect entry portal since one of the things the funda got me to do was write short entries... yes, me in brief (as opposed to me in briefs, I suppose)...

the funda semi-retired just short of five hundred entries (but not dead yet, perhaps, after all, there was no grand farewell party or anything and no gifts or fluids were exchanged), but that was the home of Blogathon 2003 for me and I was loving every minute of it... even had a few extra entries over the quota there and still had entries in candora and candor, which were much more active as that was before I started this place you've all come to know and groan over, I mean love...

I am not sure I am going to get into actively participating in the Blogathon thing this year, mostly because I just found out about it moments ago and need to let the idea stir around in my head a bit... doing it here would mean candoor would suddenly have a hundred uncharacteristically brief entries and starting up the funda again just for the blogathon might be wiser and more fitting, but then, fewer people would follow there I think and the passing through googlers and others require active diary time to ... excuses?... maybe... in any case, just in case I remain lazy and uninspired and do not actively participate, support our resident fallen angel in this worthy endeavor... if not with a tangible donation, then at least try to stay awake for a portion of the 24 hours and cheer him and other blogathoners on, ok?>...

in a nutshell,

1. you sign up on the Blogathon site,
2. you pledge to write an entry every thirty minutes for a twenty four hour period,
3. you choose a charity,
4. and people pledge to donate whatever they can to the charity you've chosen...
5. you turn on your computer at 9am August 6th, 2005 and type till you drop

or... you keep visiting your favorite blogathoners and cheer them on... or both... stocking up on your favorite caffienated drink that day would be very wise... having a blogathon party wherever your computer might be would be wise... multiple participants can do it from one blog/diary site too... and be as real or silly or creative as you wish...

if you do sign up, now would be a good time to send happy hello notes and comments to everyone you've every known or received a note or comment from... use every trick in the book to encourage people to visit your diary and read your little permanent blurb about your grueling twenty-four hour writing marathon... seek pity, if that helps... be cute... be clever... be fun...

be honest if you think that'll help (or be sarcastic if you think that'll help... who me?... it's all about the self-mockery, you know)...

so I just made my pitch for the Blogathon people... even if I do not motivate myself (which means motivating my ego, since it's only ego that would want to dance with creating entries in this marathon fashion... then again, I could try to wake up my heart... or my libido... naaaa, then I'd want sex again and we know the kind of trouble that could get me into... did I mention self-mockery?)...

digging a bit deeper, I visted the person in charge this year and I've got to admire the effort here, though I will say it, supporting an organization that supports self-abuse just makes no sense to me... might as well support Smokers for Life (and I wouldn't be surprised if there was such an organization out there)... I do not understand the denial that goes into the justification of unhealthy habits, but then, we've been through this subject before (and I love you even if you dropped me for it... honesty rules my world, remember?)... and I still love Sheana too for she's got to be good-n-crazy for taking this job on...

next up on the list of producers of this event was Jenny, the web designer who will be blogging with friends from this blog and gets mentioned here cuz she's cute (must be the Greek in me)... am I that shallow?... only when it might get a laugh (did it?... well, I offer no apologies... unless they'll get a laugh)... I do seriously support the education she and her blogging friends chose to support... and I would even if she wasn't cute...

and just when I was starting to feel over my head in techie talk (I admire all the code people learn and the designs they develop, but I've still found no interest in me in learning much more than I already know... still, I don't want to be an existential simplistic snob, so yay for the coders and the web geeks among us cuz without you, I'd be feeling way too self-satisfied and knowledgeable), the PR guy seems to know his techie stuff and I'm drooling over the music and links... must make time to click and read more...

and then there are team leaders and teams (which will take some research to understand and I am running out of time to browse at the moment) and translators and others... if I was rich I'd donate to everyone, but alas, I shall reserve my few dollars for a few causes that appeal to me and be satisfied giving up a meal for them...

so I guess this is my Blogathon 2005 entry... it is good to see it back (even if I am feeling lazy at the moment)... we shall see if I wake up enough to remember how much fun it was in 2003 and find motivation to dive in this year... stay tuned, or at least stay awake on August 6th reading others and click a lot...

they all deserve lots of big compliments...

and in conclusion (for this entry, at least, for this entry feels more finished than the previous unfinished entry, which doesn't have as many links as this one does, but has more personal links if you aren't completely bored with my self-indulgences just yet), when I get a grown up computer (with more than 32MB RAM and so on and a DSL or better connection), everyone should support blogathon...

and...

I want to remember to check out these guys and their ideas...
